PS5 Slim digital Edition Console

PS5 Slim Digital Edition comes in two storage variants for the all-digital (no disc drive) model: the original 1TB SSD version (launched late 2023, model CFI-20xx series) and the revised 825GB SSD version (introduced September 2025 as CFI-21xx series, e.g., CFI-2116/2100). Both deliver identical performance—ultra-fast loading, 4K/120Hz gaming, ray tracing, Tempest 3D Audio, and DualSense haptics—but the newer 825GB is a “shrinkflation” update (less storage at the same price point globally). Sony lists usable space as ~848GB for 1TB models (~667GB after OS) and ~667GB for 825GB models.

Side-by-Side Comparison

Feature	PS5 Slim Digital 1TB SSD (Original)	PS5 Slim Digital 825GB SSD (Revised)
Raw SSD Capacity	1TB (~848GB usable)	825GB (~667GB usable)
Performance	Identical: 8-core Zen 2 CPU, RDNA 2 GPU (10.28 TFLOPs), 16GB GDDR6 RAM	Identical
Expandability	M.2 PCIe Gen4 slot (up to 8TB), USB external drives	Identical
Design/Size	358 × 96 × 216 mm, ~3.2kg; glossy accents	Same size/weight; fully matte finish (no glossy)
I/O & Features	2× USB-C, 2× USB-A, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet; PS4 backward compatible	Identical
Cooling/Noise	Improved over original PS5 (quieter fans)	Identical
Price (Global MSRP)	$449.99 (older stock)	$449.99 (current)

Key Difference: Only storage—the 825GB holds fewer games (~10-12 large titles like Call of Duty at 200GB+ vs. ~12-15 on 1TB). Both expandable easily (e.g., add WD Black SN850 2TB SSD you asked about earlier for ~KSh 25k). No performance hit; newer model has minor cosmetic tweaks (matte shell resists fingerprints better).
